Hill Launched Tandem Hang Gliding Flights
|
|
Tasman bay offers some of New Zealand's best soaring sites
with heights greater than 2,000ft(650meters) above landing
offered at Takaka Hill and Barnicote Range.
These flights offer the greatest opportunity for sustained
soaring flight and maximimum flying time as well as to gain
tuition and development of soaring skills.
Flight Duration: Approximate time in the air is from
15 - 20 minutes. Soaring conditions will extend time
aloft depending on time availibility and passenger comfort.
Time engaged in the Activity: Allow 2 -3 hours to complete
this activity. This varies depending upon the site to
be flown, conditions, pick up location and number in group.
Pre requisites: Participants must be able to
run at least at a fast jogging pace and be free of heart or
other serious physical impairments. Signing of a release from
liability may be required.
Things to Bring: Bring eye wear such as sun glasses,
sun screen, drink, food, warm clothing and sturdy footwear.
Other Things to Consider:
- Toilet facilities are limited.

Tow Launched Tandem Hang Gliding Flights
|
A tow launched tandem flight is the most time and cost effective
means of experiencing free flight by hang glider and provides
accessibility to the greatest number of participants because
no running is required on landing or on launch. Through this
system we have introduced this most inspirational experience
to a range of people impaired by conditions of age, paralysis
or blindness.
Tow launching also offers participants the most intense means
of experiencing hang gliding at its most spectacular. This
is because without driving up a hill, the participant leaves
the take off and landing area and within a minute has
been pulled to an altitude of 800 feet / 270 meters.
This spectacular angle of climb exceeds that of nearly all conventional
aircraft and is followed by release from the towline and the
transition to tranquil gliding flight. The passenger may
have the opportunity to experience controlling the glider through
a 360 degree turn at this time. Throughout this phase, the glider
follows a flight plan that prepares for the return to land.
Because the launch, glide and landing occur within close proximity
to each other, the experience is very intense.
This activity is well suited to groups, physically impaired
or those with budgetry or time constraints as well as anyone
with a passion for life! |
